EXTENSION CARE
A little extra care goes a long way toward keeping your natural hair healthy and your new extensions looking their best.
-
A little awareness or mild tenderness can be normal while your scalp adjusts to your new extensions.
Your extensions should never feel excessively tight or painful. If you're experiencing persistent discomfort, pulling, or irritation, please reach out.
-
Regular brushing helps prevent tangling + matting.
Using an extension-safe brush, brush thoroughly at least twice a day and always before washing.
Start at the ends and gently work your way up, supporting your extensions with one hand to avoid unnecessary tension.
Separate each row and gently brush around and between the extensions, not just the surface.
-
For most guests, washing 1–2 times per week is a good starting point. You can refresh just the top of your natural hair between full washes if needed.
Use professional, extension-safe, sulfate-free shampoo + conditioner.
Gently cleanse your scalp and between each row, double shampooing for a thorough cleanse, then rinse completely.
Apply conditioner through the mids + ends, keeping it away from your attachment points.
Avoid purple shampoo, toning products or corrective treatments unless we've discussed them first.
After washing, gently squeeze out excess water rather than rubbing or wringing your hair.
-
Yes, we remain actively involved until After washing, apply your recommended leave-in conditioner + heat protectant.
Working in sections, thoroughly dry your attachment points + wefts first using low to medium heat, then dry the lengths.
If your rows become damp from workouts, swimming, saunas or steam, thoroughly dry the attachment area afterward.
Never go to sleep with wet extensions.
-
Extension hair needs a little extra hydration to stay soft, smooth + healthy.
Use a lightweight leave-in conditioner and/or extension-safe oil or serum through your mids + ends as needed.
Add a hydrating mask periodically for extra moisture, keeping oils, masks + heavier products away from your attachment points.
-
You can absolutely style your extensions, just be gentle with your heat.
Always use a heat protectant and keep hot tools at 325°F or below.
Avoid direct heat on your attachment points + wefts.
Minimize unnecessary heat styling to extend the life of your extensions. Heatless styling is always a great option.
-
A simple bedtime routine helps prevent tangling + matting.
Before bed, make sure your hair is completely dry and gently brush through your extensions.
Secure your hair in a loose low ponytail or loose braid with a soft scrunchie.
Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to help reduce friction.
-
Pool, ocean + lake water can be drying and may cause tangling or discoloration, so minimize getting your extensions wet whenever possible. Even with precautions, swimming may affect the color and longevity of your extensions.
If swimming, wet your hair with clean water first and apply a lightweight, extension-safe leave-in conditioner through the lengths.
Secure your hair up to minimize tangling + exposure to the water.
After swimming, rinse thoroughly with clean water immediately, gently detangle and thoroughly dry your attachment area.
-
Certain sunscreen ingredients can discolor extension hair, especially lighter shades.
Choose a mineral sunscreen without avobenzone or octocrylene.
Be mindful of sunscreen on your neck, shoulders + back where your extensions may come into contact with it.
Avoid transferring sunscreen directly onto your extension hair whenever possible.
-
Plan to return for maintenance every 6–10 weeks, depending on your hair, growth + extension placement. Staying on schedule helps protect your natural hair and prevents unnecessary tangling, matting + tension.
We'll determine the maintenance schedule that's best for you + your hair.
